Using Automatic SSL

The Automatic SSL feature allows CacheFly to automatically create SSL certificates for custom domains, as long as the domains are pointing to a CacheFly service.

These certificates will automatically renew and expired certificates will be automatically removed.

Enabling Automatic SSL

To enable Automatic SSL for a service:

  • Navigate to Configuration > Services > [SERVICE NAME]

  • On the left of the screen, click on SETTINGS to view the settings for the service

  • Click on the toggle to enable Automatic SSL

    • If this feature is not enabled, please click Contact Sales button to see if this feature can be enabled

  • Remember to click the Apply Changes button to save your changes.

Scroll the graphics in this step horizontally to see all the screens.

How to Use an Automatic SSL for a Custom Domain

The Automatic SSL feature will require validation to verify control and ownership of the domain, and to issue a SSL certificate.

There are two ways to validate domains:

  • HTTP Validation

    • HTTP validation simply requires you to create a CNAME record pointing to the CacheFly CNAME target [<service_name>.cachefly.net].

  • DNS Validation

    • This is normally for cases where HTTP Validation is not an option, such as those using multiple CDNs.

    • A CNAME will still be required, but this option generates a unique validation target to point to.

Once a domain has been successfully validated, you will see the Validation Status set to Validated and we will issue a certificate for the domain.
